A RECENT Herald feature on the opening of the Adur flyover prompted reader Trevor Smart to get in touch.

“I enclose a picture of my wife, then my fiancée, Denise MacKinnon, on the flyover in early June, 1970,” said Trevor

“We were married on the 27th. I borrowed my dad’s Morris Traveller estate for the day, a Sunday.

“I lived in Southwick and she in Worthing, and up to that time, I made the journey over the old toll bridge twice a week.

“In those days, on a Sunday, as you can see, the ‘new’road was nearly empty!”
