Comments criticising the filming at the Long Man of Wilmington by Trinny and Susannah have inundated the Eastbourne Herald website.
Our original story on Friday became our top feature on the site for Saturday and Sunday.

An article on the meeting between the two style gurus and protesters on Monday also drew many new readers to the site from across the globe.

A news feature about the history of the Long Man of Wilmington has also been well read.

Many of those commenting on the 'make-over' were against it.

'Heavy Duty' from Westbrook said, ''Only when something might be of pagan origins it might or will be desecrated.''

Whilst 'SC von Gehl' from Michigan, USA, said, ''Please do not desecrate my deity, my culture, nor my heritage.

''Defaming the All-Father is racist slander and an attack on our ethnicity. I hope that you and yours are far above this proposed racist act of turning our deity into a woman.''

However 'Ambiguity-1' from Eastbourne had a slightly different view.

They said, ''Certainly If this was a Christian icon this desecration would not take place. However the Long Man has powers of fertility, so Eastbourne's birth rate will increase and we would then keep our maternity ward perhaps.''

Another take was added by 'Kreb' from West Sussex.

They said, ''I am of the view that the Long Man is actually a woman.

''But it is an ancient site and I do hope that these so-called style gurus Trinny and Susannah show due respect for the land, and not walk on the hill giantess, or have other people trample all over her body.

''Nor walk around it. The earth is sensitive and if women trample on or beside the Long (Wo)man surely the Earth Goddess will be displeased. In short, I think such a stunt is uncool. Most uncool.''

Despite the protest, the filming went ahead.

Many more comments were posted and these can be read at here.
