Observer Comment: Past time for Royal Mail to pull its socks up

JEREMY Lovegrove's sorry tale of a bunch of Mother's Day flowers delivered for his partner two weeks late just shows that the problems Bexhill's sorting office is experiencing appear to be worsening.

It’s reasonable to expect first class service when paying for first class delivery, especially if, like a bouquet of white lilies, the goods sent in the post are likely to spoil if not received on time.

The Bexhill Observer has highlighted many cases where residents have received late - or no - deliveries over recent months.

And we have also had many phone calls from worried people, one such a few weeks ago from a lady concerned about sensitive documents not reaching her on time.

With cuts in staffing and hours, the postal workers in Bexhill are struggling to cope.

Royal Mail’s management and decision-makers at a higher level need to take this issue seriously and provide a solution to this backlog.

After all, this situation has been allowed to continue for far too long.
