Record numbers attend firework display and procession
Worthing Lions Club, which organises the fireworks, thanked the public for their generosity at the ‘enjoyable’ event, despite the firework display halting half way through.
The fireworks display followed the annual Tide of Light procession. The procession, organised by Bartie Presents, included a free arts and crafts workship where children got the opportunity to make paper lanterns.

Hide AdMarian Down, president of the Worthing Lions Club, said: “The third Worthing Lions Club fireworks display had been in the planning for many months and with the plus factor of the fifth falling on a Saturday this year therefore enabling the festivities to be extended all members of Worthing Lions were looking forward to a fantastic evening.
“It was their great disappointment that owing to the fact a malfunction in the automatic firing mechanism developed half way through the display the pyrotechnic engineers decided that in the interests of health and safety the latter half and grand finale had to be abandoned. This was a sorry end to what had been so far a spectacular display.
“Despite this disappointment the evening had been much enjoyed by record numbers of people attending. It is a free family event and Worthing Lions would like to thank all members of the public for their generosity, their sponsors without whom the event would not go ahead.
“The failure of the firing mechanism was an unfortunate thing that could not be prevented resulting in a one off failure which will certainly not prevent Worthing Lions from organising the event in 2017.”
