Police found small scale cannabis production in Eastbourne home, court hears

The discovery of cannabis plants at his home has ended in court for one Eastbourne man.

Lee Collins, of Fountains Close, was caught out by police after a misuse of drugs act warrant was executed at his home address.

In a bedroom officers found a cannabis plants growing in a tent along with equipment. This was seized by police.

At a hearing at Eastbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday October 2, the 27-year-old pleaded guilty to producing seven plants of cannabis genus.

Noelle Magennis, defending, said, “They found a small scale cannabis production and there were seven plants altogether in a tent.

“He was interviewed and made full admissions at the first opportunity.

“He has pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and ask for full credit for that.

“He has on-going issues with cannabis misuse, he uses it daily.

“He has severe migraines and found it helps with that. He knows it’s an issue and he needs to seek help to get rid of this problem.”

“Perhaps this could be dealt with by way of a lengthy conditional discharge for perhaps 24 months.

“A conditional discharge hanging over him for a significant period of time would be a deterrent for him.”

Collins was given a 12 month community order and must carry out 50 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay £40 costs. Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the plants and equipment.
