An Eastbourne Borough Council spokesman said, “With the statutory consultation process now concluded, council officers are in the process of determining the planning and listed building consent applications for the partial demolition of the Claremont Hotel.
“We understand that Claremont Hotel owners Daish Holidays are engaged with a contractor and that preparatory work will begin on the site, based on the determination of the applications, on Monday (February 10).
“Once preparatory work is completed on the site, we are confident that the contractors will start the demolition at the earliest opportunity.
“We are keeping local residents and businesses updated and will continue to work with all our partners in order to return this section of seafront to normal, as soon as possible.”
