Star Group gears up for exhibition

THE Star Group annual exhibition at the Thebes Gallery, Lewes, from September 17-30 takes place in sad circumstances.

Hugh Longhurst, its founder and organiser, died this summer.

Hugh remained involved with the planning of the exhibition until he died

The group began to meet 18 years ago at the gallery in the old Star Brewery building in Lewes.

It now meets 40 times a year at the All Saints Centre, Lewes, to draw and paint from a model.

One of the strengths of the group is its commitment to exhibiting, which acts as a motivation for high quality work. Many of the models are also artists.

This year's exhibition is called Lifeworks and includes a memorial to Hugh and some of his paintings.

Ten per cent of any sales revenue will be donated to the Sussex Heart Charity which was nominated by Hugh's family.
