Mellow groove and Great British funk

The band arrives in Eastbourne on Saturday May 21 to perform at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of their debut hit single You To Me Are Everything, the Liverpool based trio boast three million selling hit singles including, Can’t Get By Without You, Whenever You Want My Love and Can You Feel The Force, making them a best-selling group of the late 70s.

With the band’s origins in the Merseybeat boom of the 1960s, lead singer Eddie Amoo formed The Real Thing with brother Chris Amoo, Ray Lake and Dave Smith. Spotted by an ex-Radio Luxembourg DJ, Tony Hall, they signed to Pye Records in 1975, with You To Me Are Everything sailing to the top of the UK singles chart the following year.

Now featuring three original vocalists Eddie Amoo, Chris Amoo and Dave Smith, along with the bands own hits, the 70s trio will also perform well-known soul and funk classics from the likes of Kool and the Gang and Chic along with more temporary tracks including Justin Timberlake’s Cry Me A River.

“There’s always going to be a sense of nostalgia about our music because it will never die,” explains singer Eddie. “But we also like to incorporate outside contemporary chart influences in our music.”
