Trials- a hidden gem at Arundel Park

NOT many people in the equestrian world know there is a superb cross-country course in Arundel Park that is only publicly used competitively once a year.

The reason for throwing it open to the public is the annual Pony Club Open Hunter Trials, organised by the Crawley and Horsham South Pony Club, this year to be held on Sunday May 25, Bank Holiday weekend.

For the first time ever, this year there will be a small course for starters in this discipline, consisting of around ten fences in a proper course configuration, with heights up to 2'0''.

There will be two classes at this height, for under 12's starting out in the discipline , and over 12's aimed at those riders changing from a pony to a horse, and wanting to get course practise at a beginner's height.

This year will also include in the Open a superb new Trakehner at approximately 3'3'' and another ditch. It is hoped a new coffin jump will be ready, together with upgrades to the water to include a pre-water tree to jump.

Between the various courses there will be around 35 jumps, both fixed and mobiles.
