Sidley have exceeded expectations

SIDLEY Cricket Club captain Scott Woodroffe admits the team have exceeded his own expectations but believes they can maintain their high-flying Sussex Division Two placing.

The Gullivers outfit are unbeaten in their three outings so far and sit in a lofty third spot behind mighty Lewes and Haywards Heath.

Unfortunately they are likely to lose ground on their rivals on Saturday May 24 as they are without a competitive fixture.

But the time off has given Woodroffe a chance to take stock of the success story that has unfolded so far.

He said: "If we can turn the close games into wins a top three spot is not out of the realms of possibility. But Haywards Heath and St James' have played Premier League cricket and that always makes a difference. We are definitely more in a position to compete with them than last year. We are not going to be the pushover that we were."

He went on: "The league table is a good reflection of how well we've played. The first three games have gone really well and we've turned in some really solid performances. There's a long way to go but all the guys are looking forward to it."
