The season is not yet at the half way stage, yet Saltdean are already looking doomed. The lack of overall quality in the squad makes it highly unlikely that they will be able to collect enough points to survive. Unless they can strengthen quickly the outlook is bleak.

This defeat was a little harsh on the Tigers who didn't deserve to lose by four goals but neither did they ever look likely to win. And why would they, for only three or four of the players here are good enough at this level. Mick Ford made three changes to the starting line up with James Fensome, Chris Pitfield and Daniel Jordan, in for Liam O'Brien, Dan Razavi and Leigh Davis. Marc Wane started up front, with Grant Bean wide left. Selsey were without star man Jason Reed, but were able to include Clinton More on loan from Eastbourne Borough.

Selsey had much the better of the opening exchanges with More, Ian Ford and Lee Stephens having chances. Saltdean were struggling again to hold onto possession and were unable to exert any pressure. The home side went very close on nineteen minutes when Ford hit the bar. They went close again when Liam headed wide from a Jon Bines cross.

The pressure eventually told when, with just four minutes to go to half time, Selsey took the lead. Derek Chester, coming in from midfield, fired past Gareth Ford.

Ware went very close to putting Saltdean level, with a long range effort at the start of the second half. Gareth Ford made a very good save from Barry Rishman and there was a real snap to the match.

But it was all over when Selsey doubled their lead on sixty seven minutes. Hitting on the break, More played through Ian Ford who was just too quick for Saltdean.

Two minutes later and it was 3-0. Another quick counter attack saw Chester cross for Ford, who had a tap in. And the scoring was completed when Bines smashed in a free kick from the left of the box.

Saltdean as a club suffer from the problem of everybody operating as individuals; not just the players but the officials too, and until people start to put the club's needs above their own egos, these things will continue to go wrong.
