RUGBY: Worthing captain James Arthur's weekly column (November 19)

MORE injuries meant changes to the side again this week with Will Smith coming into the second row, moving Joe Launchbury into eight and Rob Smith to six.

Jamie Redmayne captained his second match as I was rested on the bench.

The backs saw the return of Matt McLean at full-back after a long injury break, moving Will Marshall onto the wing and Ben Dudley came back into the starting line in the centre.

There has been little continuity in the side from game to game and this is showing the versatility that a large number of players have as they are having to play out of position.

It is not an ideal position for any club to be in and we are trying to work through it the best we can.

The game was about as miserable as the weather. The wind and rain forced a forward dominant game.

Ealing are second in the league and put us under pressure from the start. We defended well but our line was broken when a well-placed kick, which, given the conditions, could have gone anywhere, unfortunately fell into the arms of the Ealing winger, who strolled over.

We went into half-time 8-0 with everything to play for. The second- half saw Worthing with the wind at our backs start brightly and eventually got our only try of the game from good pattern play allowing Joe Govett a break for the line. Although we did have a try disallowed, due to a forward pass.

The final score was Ealing 18 Worthing 5. We looked strong when we strung together phases, but we failed to keep hold of the ball enough and lost possession at crucial moments and to use the wind to our advantage.

Now third from bottom our comfortable start to the season is slipping away from us, due to losses that have not come from us playing better teams, but from our own mistakes, costing us time and time again.

We now have a week off to really reflect on our performances and dig deep.

Bridgwater away is now a must- win game for us to stay out of the relegation zone. This is not a position any team would want to be in and one that I am disappointed that we find ourselves in.

It is only something that can be achieved by stamping out the errors, working hard at training and showing grit and determination.

It is time for all of us to step up and find that little bit extra that has been missing and fight for our survival.
