New astroturf pitch gets thumbs up

A BRAND new astroturf pitch in Bexhill has been given the thumbs up by local footballers.

Les Wood, manager of the Hungry Horse (the Rose & Crown pub) six-a-side team, was impressed with the scene that greeted him and his team-mates when they enjoyed the honour of being the first team to grace the surface, opposite Nazareth House.

Wood said: "They are the best facilities we have ever had. We played in the Eastbourne League last year and that was nowhere near as good. There's a netting that divides the pitches so the ball is always in play. It's a brand new surface and it's lovely."

The only stage of the development yet to be completed centres around the changing rooms. Makeshift accommodation is currently being used while the project is completed.

Wood is hoping that the plush new set-up will encourage a few more teams to fill the allotted 12 places in the Bexhill six-a-side Football League. Three slots remain available for teams wishing to enter but interested parties are required to get their applications off quickly as it is unlikely that entries will be accepted beyond an approximated cut-off point of July 18.
