More off-road routes open in Sussex

THE Toll Rides (Off-Road) Trust, known as TROT. was established in 1990 by a group of riders who had few safe off-road rides and were concerned at the growing amount of traffic on their local roads.

Their approach to local farmers led to the first Toll Ride being opened on agreed tracks and headlands. In just a few years, dozens of networks of toll rides, connecting to local public bridle paths and byways were initially opened in the South-East.

Two new West Sussex routes are due to open by early May, at Knepp Castle Estate, West Grinstead, and Hook Farm at Ardingly.

In late 2005 Defra awarded TROT a grant for its development and expansion project. As a result of this funding TROT has been able to improve existing ride/carriage driving networks and continue to expand their scheme by opening up even more routes.
