Lewes win high noon encounter with Exiles

LEWES secured their fourth win of the season with a single-goal victory over Newport County today (Sunday).

A Paul Booth strike on 12 minutes ultimately sealed the points for Steve King's men, although they had to endure plenty of pressure in the second half.

Keeper Steve Williams pulled off a sensational save on 51 minutes to deny Charlie Griffin from point blank range.

But for all their pressure, visitors County could not produce anything else resembling a clear-cut chance.

The visitors from South Wales had Ian Hillier sent off in the dying moments for an elbow on Jamie Cade, while Exiles boss Peter Beadle could face an FA charge for an offensive gesture aimed at Rooks fans who goaded him at the final whistle.

The game had been switched to midday on Sunday on police advice after a history of trouble between the two teams.
