LANCING'S long climb up the table to fifth slipped back two places on Saturday with a second defeat in their last four league starts. Boss Mark Cox regards the loss as a reminder that the job of restoring respectability is not yet done.

The cost of defensive exposure by Zac Newman was a hat-trick for the Oakwood striker in the 30th, 69th and 85th minutes after Lancers had equalised twice in the first 35 minutes '” through recent signing James Hannah (23min) and John Rhodie with his fifth goal of the season.

At 2-2 just after the interval, in Lancers' best spell, Wesley Lopez brought a super save and Hannah's follow-up for the rebound hit an Oakwood defender on the line.

But when, instead, it was Oakwood who scored first '” with Dean MacDonald lying injured but play not being halted, Lancing began to crumble.
