H&B Colts run comes to an end

HASTINGS & Bexhill s fine run in the National Colt Competition was finally put to an end by a strong Bishop s Stortford side on Sunday.

Boasting two England under 19 internationals and playing several divisions higher, the Hertfordshire side proved to a tougher obstacle than H&B s previous victims Blackheath and Portsmouth.

Coach Ian Davies said: "We played very well but two tries by their international winger meant we were 17-0 down at half time.

"They had a big front row but we dealt with them well, particularly props Alex Hohenkerk and Paul Paulisky."

Roger Roberts scored for H&B in the final minute after he received a knock down from a line out and was driven across the line by the pack.

Davies added: "We ll be in it again next year if they let us and will have virtually the same squad so we ll be stronger, wiser and a lot more experienced."
