Hawks survive late Peacock scare

GRIT RATHER than inspiration was the key as Arundel battled to a well-deserved point against leaders Whitehawk at Mill Road on Saturday.

The visitors arrived boasting an unbeaten start to the season along with a defence that is yet to concede a goal. With the huge presence of Ross Standen in goal and defending that could best be described as uncompromising it was easy to see why they have maintained this record.

In truth Arundel rarely looked like breaking Whitehawk's resistance on Saturday. The lack of cutting edge was illustrated by a succession of Marc Cooper free kicks that provided only catching practice for Standen. By the same token Whitehawk seldom threatened either and it was 40 minutes before Mullets keeper Ben O'Connor comfortably fielded their first shot at goal from Simon Rowland.
