Have Littlehampton blown promotion?
STEYNING Cricket Club spinner Dave Mates took five of the last six wickets at home to Littlehampton on Saturday, to keep alive his side's outside chances of an immediate return to the Premier Division and all but consign Benn Challen's team to another season of second-level cricket.
That Littlehampton failed to win was down to a combination of clever bowling by Mates, and shocking batting by the Littlehampton order from number six downwards.
Chasing 236 for victory, Challen, Chris Kirkham and Justin Scott had set up the push for victory, until all three perished having played shots they need not have attempted, and Littlehampton slumped from 164-5 to 197 all out.
