GROG MEMBERS SAVOUR SWEET TASTE OF VICTORY

MEMBERS of the Goodwood Racehorse Owners' Group '“ affectionately known as Grog '“ celebrated at the recent Goodwood meeting when Goodwood Starlight romped home ahead of the 2/1 favourite Blues Minor.

The Mtoto colt claimed the first division of the Champagne Joseph Perrier Maiden Auction Stakes at Salisbury by a creditable 2 lengths.

The winners' enclosure was barely large enough to contain the jubilant owners, as around 60 members of the 200-strong, 14th syndicate of Grog welcomed back Eddie Ahern and the John Dunlop-trained colt

Grog racing manager Gail Brown said: "This is our eighth individual winner since our inception in 1994 and this is by far our largest turnout of members.

"He ran a bit green but still managed to win going away. He'd been working very nicely at home but you never know on their debut.

"This is a most encouraging start to his career and we now hope that he comes out of the race well and progresses.
