Common thump Saltdean...again

Little Common made it 22 goals in two games against Saltdean United.

Common followed up their 14-0 romp in October’s reverse fixture with an 8-0 victory away from home on Saturday to go third in Sussex County Football League Division Two.

Playing with the wind in the first half, Common took a seventh minute lead through Russell Eldridge’s first goal of the season. Eldridge then set up the second for Lewis Hole.

Hole grabbed the third and his eighth against Saltdean this term from close range, and Jamie Crone made it four just a minute later. Dominic Cruttenden added number five on the stroke of half time.

The second half was played in driving rain and Common had to wait until six minutes from time for their sixth goal, Cruttenden converting Chris Cumming-Bart’s pull back.

Cruttenden soon completed his hat-trick and took his tally to five in three games before Crone rounded-off the scoring with his 23rd of the season.

Elsewhere, Bexhill United recovered from going 2-0 down in the first seven minutes to earn a 2-2 draw away to Storrington in the same division.

A great shot by Danny Turner was saved, but Joe Rogers had to pull off a fine stop at the other end to prevent Bexhill trailing 3-0 at the break.

With the rain lashing down during the second period, Turner pulled one back midway through and levelled with an 87th minute penalty. Full reports on both matches will appear in Friday’s Bexhill Observer.

Rye United’s visit from South Park in the FA Vase was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and it is hoped the third round tie will go ahead at the third time of asking tomorrow (Tuesday) night.

The Sussex Division One match between Sidley United and Ringmer, plus the Division Two game involving Westfield and Steyning Town were also called-off.
