But Chapman believes his side matched the strong Tonbridge side for large periods of the game.

He said: " I thought we played alright. At 0-0 we had two really good chances.

"I have just said to the players, we are disappointed by the result but we are encouraged by what we have seen.

"We were in the game until they got the second goal. We didn’t jack it in and we got the goal.

"There were lots of positives. I said in the dressing room, don’t just accept defeats because we are not happy with that.

"But you have got to understand Tonbridge are a decent team and I think we gave a good account of ourselves but we have got to get results."

Burgess Hill will be looking to bounce back against Enfield Town on Saturday, a team Chapman's rates highly like Tonbridge.

The boss said: "Enfield are another decent side. When we looked at the fixtures, we saw the first two or three and knew they would be tough.

"A long away trip to start with and then two home games against sides I think will be in the top six or seven this year. I actually think Tonbridge will be higher than that, they will be challenging.

"We just have to make sure we set a standard in the way we are playing. I felt we played better tonight than we did Saturday.

"We’ve played some good stuff tonight, very encouraging but we are not happy we have lost the game."
