FOOTBALL: Davies to step down as Rustington boss

RUSTINGTON Football Club manager Gareth Davies will take charge of Blues for the last time in Wednesday's Sussex RUR Cup final against Eastbourne UA.

Davies has been in charge since September 2004 and guided Blues to promotion into County League Division 2, the Vernon-Wentworth Cup (three times), the Division 3 Cup (twice) and the Sussex Intermediate Cup.

Blues also finished in the top three of Division 2 last season and were runners-up in the Division 2 Cup.

And Rustington won every fixture in 2007 under Davies, which led to national coverage on Sky Sports and BBC.

Davies said: "I feel that I have taken the club as far as I can and wanted to go out with my head held high.

"I'll take a break from the game, which I owe to my family, and will see what the future holds.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rustington, though, and there were a number of highlights."

Wednesday's RUR Cup final is at Lancing with a 7.45pm kick-off.
