Young hits unbeaten century as Ansty 2nds win

With the 1st XI match called off by the umpires before the toss Ansty's attention focussed on the 2nd XI clash away at Rottingdean.

Having been asked to bat the home side added 49 for the first wicket to be followed by another two as the score reached 55. Useful scores had been made as the innings had progressed but Jack Cox (44) and Jay Paulraj (35) added the most runs to enable Rottingdean to end with 194-8. Will Wright and Megan Janman each took 3 wickets.

Ansty’s reply began poorly with the first three batsmen back in the pavilion with just 7 on the board. However Jake Brooks and Jonny Young put on 81 for the 4th wicket that of Brooks for 30. Will Wright joined Young and this pair saw the visitors home for a 6 wicket win. Young batted well for his 106no and Wright equally well for his 43no.

3rd XI

The 3rd XI match with Lingfield IV XI ended in defeat as the home side could not reach the target of 180. Will Carr had an outstanding afternoon with the ball taking 5-21 including the top scorer for Lingfield, Will Mason for 49.

Despite Tom Tyers 53 and Jamie Weller’s 24, the home side came up 59 runs short. Will Mason followed his batting with 4-16.

4th XI

Bolney were the 4th XI opponents and with a depleted team of eight the home side struggled to contain the Ansty batting. Three wickets however fell for just one run when the score was 114and Ansty’s innings fell away slightly as they finished on 159.

Ansty then ripped through the Bolney batting wrapping up a win in the 17th over. Phil Herbert was the main destroyer with his 5-11 off 8.1 overs. Top scorer for Bolney was Ashley Hollow with 16.
