Wright insists IPL spell was a great experience

The 27-year-old missed Sussex’s opening five County Championship fixtures, but insisted his spell in the subcontinent was a worthwhile one.

He said: “Obviously I would have liked to have played more but unfortunately I had to come back for a funeral, and then I got ill so I didn’t get to go back. But I think anytime playing Twenty20 around the world this winter you get to pick up so many things from different people.

“To be able to play in the nets against Indian bowlers was great. If there’s anything I can pass on it’s always helpful.”

Meanwhile Wright is relishing the return of the domestic Twenty20 format tonight, as Sussex travel to Kent to kick off thier campaign.

The all-rounder said: “I love this format, it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. I’m like everyone else and just want to get going. We want to get into a run of games as soon as possible, and play some good cricket.

“We’ve got a great habit of getting through the groups and as soon as we get into the winning groove it’s going to help us.”

Wright continued: “We’ve got an exciting side, and the fact that this year we’ve got a lot of guys putting pressure on the other lads in the team is great. In other years, we’ve been able to put out an XI, but that’s it. There’s competition for places now, which is good.”

Wright went on to pick out which teams Sussex should be wary of during the competition. He said: “Whenever we play in the South division, everyone has got a chance. You have to look at teams like Somerset, who always seem get to finals day, and Essex are always really tough too.”

The Sharks’ match against Kent tonight (Tuesday) starts at 7.00pm.
