Wisborough remain firmly in the hunt for promotion

With visitors Rye winning the toss and batting first, the game was finely in the balance as Neil Browne’s 85 saw Rye to 205 all out in 52.2 overs.

Rye had made it to 139-1 before Ben Thatcher (5-61) removed James Hamilton for 39. Thatcher and Rajesh Maru (4-58) then got into gear as Rye’s last eight batsmen scored 37 runs between them.

Wisborough worked steadily up to 100-3, before a strong partnership of 60 between Tim Dodd (61) and David Pleasants (42). Gregg Marhsall’s unbeaten cameo of 31 then saw Wisborough home in 46 overs.

Stand-in captain Thatcher said: “It was a good win in the end after a fairly average start. After a couple of great weeks with the ball our bowlers struggled to hit consistent lengths during the early part of the innings, but we improved considerably after drinks and Raj used his experience to really tighten things up from his end.

“The pressure brought wickets and we kept them down to a total that we were confident of chasing.

“It’s another good win that helps us keep pace with the teams above us. We now turn our attention to a tough trip to Keymer & Hassocks.”

Wisborough are 25 points behind second-placed Portslade, who they play on the final day.
