Back-to-back wins move Chipps clear of danger

Chipps are fourth from bottom and 39 points clear of the relegation zone, after a 29-run win over Clymping, who are third from bottom and in the relegation places.

The win followed on from Chippingdale’s 194-run win over bottom-of-the-table Storrington the previous week.

It came after Chipps bowled Clymping out for 116, having made 145 batting first.

Hall admitted the back-to-back wins have been vital for his team and said: “As a side, we targeted the two games as winnable.

“We played Storrington, who are bottom, and Clymping, who are third from bottom and a place below us.

“If we had lost either of those two games, we could have been in trouble.

“The pressure was on us but we performed well in both. Aaron Tugnutt was really impressive and his 58, followed by three wickets, was massive.

“We are not safe yet but these two wins have given the side massive confidence.”

Chipps were put into bat after losing the toss.

Adam Thair (11) and Josh Bourne (15) fell early in the innings, before AJ Wood (two) and Amjad Riaz (two) were also soon out.

Tugnutt and Simon Martyn (19) put on a match-changing partnership and their stand helped Chipps out of difficulty and pushed them above 100.

Tugnutt fell for 58, before Gary Mockford added 19 as Chipps were all out for 145 in 48.2 overs.

Paul Challen returned figures of 4-29 for Clymping, while Andrew Dick and Nathan Smart both took two wickets.

Clymping’s reply faltered and they lost openers Michael Folly (six) and Karl Pierce (nought) early on.

Neil Pierce (eight), Smart (four), Grant Melvin (two) and Harry Hughes (three) also quickly fell, before Dick (29) and Craig Edwards (29) offered some resistance.

Challen finished unbeaten on 13 but he ran out of partners as his side were all out for 116 in 33.1 overs.

Bourne claimed 4-26 from seven overs, Tugnutt followed up his half-century with fantastic figures of 3-5 from 4.1 overs and Ollie Morris picked up 2-18.

Chippingdale will be hoping for a third successive win when they travel to second-from-bottom Scaynes Hill on Saturday.
