Bleak outlook as Lewes lose again

London Two SouthLewes 15 Tunbridge Wells 35Lewes Rugby Club's poor season continued with defeat at home in a key match against lowly Tunbridge Wells on Saturday.

The game started badly with Lewes conceding a soft try in their left corner after a loose clearance. The Wells fly-half kicked a tricky conversion for 7-0.

Barely had the game restarted than Lewes conceded another try. They gave away a penalty in the Tunbridge 22 which was taken quickly.

The ball passed through several hands and the visitors's winger was able to break through on the left side and score under the posts. With the conversion the score was 14-0.

Lewes's heads didn't go down and they started to get back into the match, and Dave Hemsley scored in the corner after a good rolling maul though the subsequent conversion was missed.

Lewes continued to make inroads, with Sean Taylor finishing off a good move through the backs, full-back Nick Sharp making good with the conversion.

Sharp landed a second kick shortly afterwards from a penalty which meant that Lewes went in at half-time 15-14 up and with the game in the balance.

Tunbridge came out after half-time much the stronger, Lewes folded and Wells scored three converted tries in the second period to no score for Lewes.

Lewes were hindered by the harsh sin-binning of two players and at one stage were playing with 13 men.
