BARKERS (Tarring) Worthing Thunder got through to the next stage of two competitions over the weekend, with comfortable wins over the Taunton Tigers in the National Trophy and Westside in the National Cup.

Saturday saw them guarantee qualification from Pool 2 of the National Trophy with a 110-71 win over Taunton Tigers, who were hampered by the loss of Matt Nolan early in the game.

Despite missing Ryan Marrast and Adam Martin through injury, Worthing leapt out to an early 9-2 lead. They maintained the advantage through the first half until a 13-3 run for the visitors saw the gap closed to 4 at 46-42.

Worthing's immediate 11-3 riposte to close the half ensured the hosts turned round 57-45 up.

When captain James Brame hit successive threes to bring up the 100, the Thunder fans were already celebrating reaching the trophy semi-finals.

The Pool winners will be decided when Thunder take on Sheffield Arrows in a winner-takes-all decider on November 18 in the Steel City.

On Sunday, Thunder earned the right to host Kent Crusaders on Sunday by defeating Westside 88-66 in Uxbridge.
