A TOP young badminton player at Olympos in Burgess Hill has won a prestigious national tournament.

Rachel Adams of Newick triumphed in the England Under-13s Badminton Championships in Worcestershire.

She got through a tough qualifying group to take her place in the semi-final, where she faced Nottingham's Hollie Page, a talented player ranked two places above her nationally.

Rachel controlled the game from start to finish and eased into the final with a 21-8 victory. Jessica Pugh of Shropshire provided the opposition but a confident performance saw Rachel take the title and gold medal with a 21-10 victory.
