Young dancers in Giselle

Auditions were held by English Youth Ballet to find up to 80 talented youngsters to perform in a brand new production of Giselle.

Three ballet students from Bexhill were chosen to take part in the ballet which will be performed at the White Rock theatre in Hastings in November.

The dancers will shortly be working very hard at weekends and half term (up to 6 hours a day) to prepare for three performances.

All the sets for this new production have been made by Lisa Dixon, painter for many West End shows, while the costumes have been designed by Keith Bish, who has worked for among others Joan Sutherland, The Royal Opera House and a variety of jobs within TV and films.

This promises to be a sumptuous production and one the young dancers all aged between 8 '“ 18 years will remember for years.

Dominic Marshall, senior choreographer, together with principal artists Julianne Rice-Oxley, Alex Newton, Emma Lister, Kasper Cornish, Matthew Powell and Trevor Wood will choreograph and rehearse these youngsters to perfection.

The ballet is set on an English country estate with 'an upstairs downstairs feel'. It is a dramatic love tale but the story has been brought into this century with warmth, colour and drama.
