The fearsome Dragons fired some challenging questions at the Year 8 contestants during the Dragons’ Den style competition held recently at Claremont School.

The Year 8 teams went head to head in a bid to attract the attention of the Dragons with their pitch on an original charity concept. However, the Year 8 pupils extinguished the flames with responses that were well articulated and mature. The Dragons faced a difficult decision in announcing a winning team.

After much debate, ‘APRE’ were selected as the winners. The Dragons were impressed with their presentation about rhino and elephant poaching. One member of the team had even gone to the extent of designing customised charity t-shirts which were worn by the team members on the day. The prize, however, came as a surprise to the team. ‘APRE’ will have the opportunity to organise and host their planned charity event at the school in the New Year.

A member of the winning team shared her thoughts and feelings about winning: “It was a brilliant experience. The process helped us dramatically improve our presentation skills and we learnt a lot about teamwork. There was some pressure because we knew that we would be presenting to the Dragons, but nothing could prepare us for the experience of answering their questions! However, the constructive criticism was really helpful. I feel excited and nervous about the prospect of bringing our event to life.”

Year 8 would like to thank the Dragons for their questions and constructive feedback. The Dragons included members of the teaching staff and Claremont Director, Mark Beaumont.
