WORTHING COUNCILLOR QUITTING CABINET ROLE

WORTHING councillor Paul High is to stand down from his cabinet role after being found guilty of assaulting his former fiancée.

Borough council leader Keith Mercer announced on Monday that Cllr High would be relinquishing his responsibilities for leisure, culture and sport but would continue as a Heene ward councillor.

Cllr High was found guilty by Worthing magistrates of common assault on Zsuzsanna Krammarics. Cllr Mercer said: "He has offered to stand down from his cabinet role and I have reluctantly agreed to accept.

"Paul has done an excellent job in the last three years to promote leisure, culture and sport in the borough.

"I shall be taking Paul's responsibilities under my wing. In view of Paul's impending appeal, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further."
