She was the second person to die this year on the blackspot stretch of road which links Petworth and Chichester.

In February a man in his late 20s died in a single car crash between the Droke Lane and Selhurst Park Road junctions with the A285 close to the scene of last Thursday’s crash.

The A285 was closed in both directions for some four hours while police officers carried out an investigation into the collision.

The 12-mile section of the A285 between Chichester and Petworth was named Britain’s ‘persistently highest risk road’ in a Road Safety Foundation survey at the end of 2014.
