Woman freed from car after accident

A woman had to be rescued from a car by firefighters in one of two Pagham accidents just eight hours apart.

The woman was cut free from the wreckage of the vehicle after it had collided with a van. The fire crew used specialist heavy rescue equipment for the task.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance after the collision about 8.13am last Friday, October 24. It occurred on the Lower Bognor Road at Lagness, about 200 yards east of the Royal Oak pub.

A few minutes after midnight at the start of the same day firefighters attended an accident close to the nearby junction of Pagham Road and Sefter Road.

A car was found in a stream but the driver had left the scene before the emergency services arrived. No one was found during a search of the area by the fire crews from Bognor Regis and Chichester.

They made the car safe.

In a third accident in the area in five days, two men had to be rescued yesterday morning. The men were in two cars which collided near the Royal Oak pub on Pagham Road.

One of the men had to be rescued by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment. The other was removed manually by firefighters from the wreckage.

Both men were taken by ambulance to St Richard's Hospital.

The accident occurred at 7.55am.
