Church times: As part of their tour of Kent and East Sussex the Choir of All Saints, Fulham sang Evensong at St Thomas’ Church last Sunday afternoon. The service was based upon the Book of Common Prayer and the choir gave a sensitive and uplifting performance of the psalms and canticles. The responses of knowing when to stand up and sit down during the ceremony are part of Anglican ritual but are not always clear to everyone which meant some furtive glancing from left to right to ensure keeping in step. This is simple proof that it is always good to be wise and think ahead. And wisdom was the theme in the Morning’s Holy Communion service with the reading from Ephesians 5:15-20: ‘See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.’ The services for this weekend are the Holy Communion services for tomorrow (Saturday) at 9.30am and then on Sunday as a Sung Eucharist at 10.30am.
