Sense of place: Next Friday March 17th Marion Molteno will be giving a talk entitled '˜A Sense of Place' at the Literary Society's meeting in the Lower Court Hall. The meeting begins at 7 for 7.30pm and includes the Society's Annual General Meeting. As usual non-members are welcome and light refreshments will be served before the meeting. Marion Molteno grew up in South Africa but left due to being involved in student protests against apartheid. She spent eight years in Zambia, where her daughters were born then had to leave after another political crisis. From 1977 she has lived in London and worked with disadvantaged members of the community and Save the Children. Her latest novel is '˜Uncertain Light' and she also wrote '˜If You Can Walk, You Can Dance' and '˜A Shield of Coolest Air'.

Church elections: St Thomas’ Church Electoral Roll is being reviewed and copies of the current roll are posted in both churches. Also there will be forms for those not on the roll who wish to be included. As the review of the Roll will close on March 12th please check your entry for accuracy. Also if you wish to stand for election as a Churchwarden, a member of the Parochial Church Council (PCC) or this year, for Deanery Synod nomination forms are available at the back of both churches and must be completed by March 22nd. New candidates for these offices, bringing skills and experience are welcomed. The elections will be taking place at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting at 10.30am on Saturday March 25th.

Hymns of praise: The Wesley Chapel will be open for ‘Hymns and Songs of Praise’ on Saturday March 18th and everyone who attends can enjoy some good singing. There will be coffee on arrival from 10 in preparation for a 10.30am start. The plan is that if you have a favourite hymn you would like everybody to sing please contact Barry Turnwell on 01424 216456 and during the meeting you will get the chance to briefly explain why it is so liked. You will also need to let Barry know in good time so that he can make sure he has the words and music ready for the day.

Sato and Dundas: The Winchelsea Arts series of concerts for 2017 is now underway and the first is on Friday March 24th at 7.30pm in St Thomas’ Church. At this concert the performers will be Marie Sato and Lucy Dundas who are flute and bassoon soloists from the junior Department of the Royal College of Music. Marie started playing the flute at the age of seven and is currently joint principal flute of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYOGB) and became a Woodwind finalist in last year’s BBC Young Musician contest. Lucy is Principal Second Bassoon in the NYOGB who recently performed at the BBC Proms and was also a soloist at the Blüthner Chamber Music Concert. All are most welcome to attend the concert and tickets are £13 each or £6.50 under 18s and can be purchased online at winchelsea-arts.org.uk or from the Farm Kitchen.

Sunday service: This Sunday March 12th there will be a Holy Communion service at St Richard’s Church at 9.30am. These meetings are twice monthly and friends and visitors are always invited to join in.
