The New Inn: Are holding a number of events in the near future, including a Beer Festival on 30th August (Bank Holiday Sunday), from 11am with around 15 to 20 bitters, a hog roast & bbq. Jumble Sale: The annual jumble sale for Cancer/Myeloma UK is on the 5th September, in the Community Hall, doors open at 2.30 pm. Items can be left at the hall from 12.45 pm but no items larger than a chair and no computers, TV’s etc., entrance 20p. We will have tombola, cakes and the usual refreshments.

Westfield Horticultural Society: Westfield Horticultural Society’s self-drive visit to The Friary Gardens, The Ridge, Hastings takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 22nd August 2015. The visit includes a Guided Tour of the redeveloped Victorian farm and gardens. Explore the plant filled poly tunnels; browse the shop and nursery that stock the more unusual plants with refreshments (donations appreciated). The meeting place is the car park of The New Inn, Westfield. Meeting time is 10am. Please contact Catherine Collingwood on 01424 552485 if you intend to come or would like a lift. Now is also the time to look at the Horticulture Society Year book with regards to the Society’s Autumn show which is held in conjunction with the Hastings and Rother division of The British Beekeeping Association at the Community Centre. The date is Saturday, 12th September, 10am to 4pm. It is also a good time to start looking around the garden to decide what classes to enter. Why not “tattoo” your pumpkin with your name or such like and watch it grow! Don’t forget to peruse the Westfield Horticultural site on Facebook and click like and share.

Westfield Women’s Institute: meets at 2.15pm in the Parish Hall. New members are always welcome; ring the W.I. President Julie Lloyd on 01424 754013 for more information.

The Friendship Club: does not meet in August but resumes after the summer break. Meetings will be on September 14 and 28, October 12 and 26, November 9 and 23 and December 7 (Christmas party). New members are made most welcome. Meetings are 2-3.30pm in the Parish Hall, and members enjoy dominoes, Scrabble, whist, bingo, and a chat over tea and biscuits. New PCSO: We are fortunate as a village community to have been taken under the wing of a new and enthusiastic Police Community Support Officer, With a view to being a prominent and approachable figure in our village, Deme is keen to introduce himself to village residents, parents and guardians and would be happy to say hello whilst on his rounds.

Westfield Scout Group: Westfield Beavers starts again on the 8th September and the new Leader, Katharine Moore, has spaces available for boys or girls looking for fun and friends aged between 6 and 8 years. If you would like more information please call her on 07736146779.

Westfield Newsagent: is now a collection point for myHermes parcels. This is very useful for sending and collecting parcels. Please pop in for more information. They are also collecting the supermarket vouchers on behalf of the village school, just drop them in.

Pass and Move: runs football coaching sessions every Saturday at St Leonard’s Academy from 9-10.30am (£3.50) or 9-11.30am (£5) and in Westfield during the week & over the school holidays. St. Laurence Church Guestling: is running its annual flower festival on 21st, 22nd and 23rd August this year. The festival has been running for a number of years, and all proceeds go towards the Church Restoration Fund. The theme for this year’s exhibits is Hymns in the Mission Praise hymn book. The festival is open each day from 10am until 5:30pm, and as well as the floral exhibits, there will be refreshments (including ploughman’s lunch and cakes); bric-a-brac and book stalls; and a tombola.
