West Bognor flower club raises record charity funds

Generous members of West Bognor Flower Club have raised a record amount for charity.

The charitable individuals ensured the group could celebrate its 40th anniversary in selfless style.

Their president, Judy Grout, and chairman, Pat MacDonald, handed over a cheque for 1,392 to the Chichester and Bognor support group of the Parkinson's Disease Society.

The money easily beat the previous annual totals of around 1,000.

Club secretary Jane Juden said: "Our club raised the money through social events, raffles, coffee mornings, lunches and a glorious summer party in a member's garden."

Next year's charity which the club will support is the cancer day care unit appeal at St Richard's Hospital.

The 120-strong club, founded by Margo Allen, has moved a long way from its early image of hats and gloves.

"We are very informal and our style of arranging includes traditional, modern and even 'new wave'," stated Mrs Juden.

"Our aim is fun and friendship through flowers. We have a varied programme which includes workshops, outings and flowers."

Club meetings are held at 2.15pm on the second Wednesday of each month at Mosse Hall, St Richard's Way, Aldwick for a demonstration and tea. Visitors are welcome.
