A Rose Green couple enjoyed a unique golden start to their married life.

Susan and Simon Gooch were wed on the 50th anniversary of the wedding of Susan's parents. The double celebrations made it a day to remember for both couples.

Susan said: "It was a superb occasion for everyone. The weather was absolutely fantastic and we all enjoyed ourselves."

The first event of the packed day, on October 11, saw Micklam Close couple Sarah (43) and Simon (37) get married at the Inglenook Hotel in Pagham.

The 10.30am service '“ in which Simon's two sons, Jake (nine) and Josh (12) were the best men '“ was followed by a full English breakfast for 32 diners.

Attention then switched to the golden celebrations of Carol Sayers (70) and Eric Sayers (72), of Boxgrove Gardens, at the Rowland Rank Centre in Aldwick.

About 70 guests were present. Some of them attended the wedding of the couple exactly half a century earlier at a church in Croydon.

A special guest at the anniversary party and the latest wedding was Susan's twin sister, Sara.

She decided to return for two weeks from her home in New Zealand after eight years away to take part in her parents' celebrations.

Susan and Simon wanted to ensure she was able to attend their wedding as well. "We deliberately made an effort to fit in with Sara's visit to this country and it seemed ideal to hold our wedding on the same day as my parents' special anniversary," said bank regional training officer Susan.

She and Simon, the managing director of an engineering firm in Southampton, left her parents' party for a two day break at Amberley Castle.

The couple met 14 months ago.
