Waste protesters plan their next move

PROTESTERS against plans for a new landfill site in Turkey Road have called a public meeting as they prepare to argue their case at the inquiry into the county council's waste plan.

It will be held at Sidley Community Centre on Monday, June 16, at 7.30pm.

Alan Watson, an environmental consultant hired by BALI (Bexhill Against Landfill and Incineration) to fight its corner, will outline the arguments he will present to inspector Andrew Newman at the public inquiry into the plan, which earmarks Ashdown Brickworks as a possible landfill site. The inquiry began in Lewes last week and BALI will give evidence on June 26.

Already some 55 concerned residents have supplied witness statements and BALI has the backing of the High Woods Preservation Society (HPS), the Rector of St Peter's, Canon Edward Bryant, Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).
