Waiting restrictions discussed

The proposal is contained in a report prepared for the Committee by West Sussex County Council Highways and Transport Team.

The report says: “Forest Way, which crosses Herontye Drive, is part of the Sussex Border Path and popular with walkers and cyclists.

Many visitors to the Path travel by car and park on Herontye Drive. In 2008 and early 2009, complaints were received about this parking causing sightline issues for pedestrians.

“The vehicles mask approaching traffic, which can be travelling higher than 30mph, putting pedestrians at risk.

“Because of this, it was proposed that ‘No waiting at any time’ double yellow lines be installed across Forest Way and for a short distance either side.”

“However concern was raised that this may force vehicles to park closer to the side road junctions, and in the side roads themselves, so the proposal included provision for junction protection at certain side roads.”

Christine Field, who will take over as Committee Chairman at its next meeting said: “Following the receipt of the objections it is now considered appropriate not to proceed with this proposal and to carry out a wider consultation so we can re-think any potential changes.

“This will give us a further opportunity to hear the views of local people on this issue.

“Parking is a headline issue for our next meeting because we will also hear an update on the East Grinstead Controlled Parking Zone review.

“There will, of course, also be our regular ‘talk with us’ session, which gives residents the opportunity to raise local issues they are concerned about.”

The meeting is being held on Tuesday June 7 at West Hoathly Primary School, North Lane, East Grinstead, starting at 7pm.
