Vandals Target Water Company

MINDLESS vandals have been targeting Southern Water's site in Lancing.

Over the last few months, police have received many reports of theft and vandalism at the company's waste water treatment site in Western Road.

Valuable pieces of equipment have been damaged, including a JCB digger and the windows of a chemical lab.

Southern Water has now hired security guards to look after the site and are urging trespassers not to go anywhere near it.

Rebecca Burgess, spokeswoman for Southern Water, said: "The area is not open to the public, and while it does not pose any hazards to people trained to work there, it is not a good place for trespassers to be as they are not familiar with the operations.

"Security guards have been appointed and they will remain on the site until further notice. We are also investigating other security measures."

Police are sending a message to those breaking in: "Your actions are extremely dangerous and irresponsible and could ultimately cause repercussions for the whole of Worthing."
