Contractors for South East Water have been working at Seaside Recreation Ground for the last six months.

But this week the company said work will be completed later in the spring.

A spokesperson said, “Our work in the Seaside Recreation Ground is part of our planned works in the area to help reduce the risk of sewer flooding affecting a number of local properties.

“It will have the added benefit of protecting surrounding properties against overland flooding.

“This new system has been under construction since September 2016.

“In that time we’ve excavated the area, installed storage tanks and made good progress on a new pumping station.

“The majority of work has been happening underground.

“Landscaping of the area and final reinstatement will be completed in April 2017 and we’re scheduled to be complete the scheme later in the spring.

“We will continue to liaise with the local community.”
