Tomorrow (Saturday) please remember the two important events in St Mary’s Community Hall, the coffee morning and the afternoon meeting of the Udimore Gardening Society.

The coffee morning, from 10am till noon, will include a Phoenix card sale, a raffle and a bring-and-buy sale, all to raise funds for the festive decoration of the Hall and the Church on the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June. Nadia Florence-Marshall will be delighted to receive items for sale, raffle prizes or donations (please phone 01424 882948).

At 2pm in the afternoon, Dr Nuala Hancock’s illustrated talk on the gardens which have inspired her work as a very successful garden designer will be another event you should be sure to attend, if you possibly can. Tea and cakes will be served during the meeting, which is open to all. Members of the Society will be asked to make a donation towards costs, £2.50 for others.

At 11.15am on Sunday there will be a special Family Service for All in St Mary’s Church to celebrate Mothering Sunday. All those who have been baptised in recent years are being invited to come to church with their mothers and other members of their families to renew their baptismal promises.

Next Wednesday, March 21, the fourth of the Overseas Group’s Lent Lunches will take place in the Hall between noon and 2pm, to raise more funds for the group’s four missionary charities. As usual, all comers will be welcome, to a lunch of home-made soup, bread and cheese. At this lunch Miss Louise Ewington, Secretary of the Papua New Guinea Church Partnership, will be giving a short talk on the work of the Partnership, one of the four charities supported by the group.

Next day (Thursday) between 10am and noon Ann Barker has arranged another coffee morning at Stocks Oast, during which there will be a raffle for a lamb generously donated by Richard and Sheila Corke. Tickets can be bought in advance and on the day. All proceeds will go to the Hall funds. For further information, please telephone Ann on 01424 883515.

At 7.30pm next Saturday (March 24) please note that there will be a special concert in St Mary’s Church, Rye, to launch the fundraising campaign for the restoration of the famous church clock, now nearly 700 years old. Time will be the theme running through the programme, the musicians in which will include Rebekah Gilbert, Helen Ridout and Holly Gurney. Tickets for the concert are available from Martello Bookshop for £10.
