Claire and Andrew, of The Laurels, have asked me to include a message from them this week: Sending a big thank you to neighbours, friends and strangers who helped in the search for our special dog, Wilma. We thought the only thing to worry about that Sunday would be Andy Murray winning at Wimbledon - never did we imagine that we would be searching for Wilma. We have been overwhelmed with the kindness, generosity and community spirit from everyone in Udimore, Rye and surrounding villages in searching, updating Facebook, Twitter etc - it made such a difference.

After being missing for 36 hours, Wilma was found by Tiga, a beagle tracker dog, under brambles in the Tillingham Valley, with only cuts and grazes, truly a miracle, with special thanks to doglost.co.uk, who put Tiga in touch with us. Thanks all, we are so very grateful.

Most Udimore households received the excellent Parish Council Newsletter, Issue 4, this week. In amplification of its advice to report speeding and noisy vehicles to the Police (on 101) I’ve been asked to add that if you manage to note the registration details of such vehicles (especially if they are also being driven irresponsibly or dangerously) it’s even better to report the incident to Operation Crackdown (01243 64 2222). This is likely to result in the police taking action against the driver. I happened to mention this in my piece last week, having heard of an incident when a child was very nearly run over in Float Lane recently.

The service in St Mary’s this Sunday is a Sung Eucharist at 11.15am.

As the notice unfortunately didn’t appear in the July Parish Magazine, I’ve been asked to remind you of the Royal Baby Barn Dance, in St Mary’s Community Hall on Saturday August 17, at 7.30pm. Flat Cat Band, baby photo competition, licensed bar and barbecue. To be sure of tickets (£10, children free with adults) it would be a good idea to ring Nadia Florence-Marshall soon (07895 639773, or 01424 882948). Nadia is also now in charge of bookings for the Hall, at a special discounted rate during the month of August - so why not organise a party?

I’ve been asked by the lawyers of the late Mrs Bunny Hawkey to pass on her telephone to anyone who needs one. It’s a nearly new Binatone Veva 1210 Twin, in good working order. If you’re interested, please get in touch with me (Beauchamps TN31 6BY, or 01797 223055).
