Two pedestrians '˜seriously injured' after Brighton crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after two pedestrians were seriously injured in a collision in Rottingdean last night (August 6).

The incident, involving a black BMW X5, took place at 8.58pm on the A259 Marine Drive, close to the junction with Chailey Avenue.

Police said the two pedestrians were both taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where they remain today (August 7).

A 69-year-old woman from Rottingdean sustained life threatening injuries and is in a critical condition, police said.

A 61-year-old man from Rottingdean sustained serious injuries.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Newhaven, was uninjured.

Sussex Police said he has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drugs, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a licence.

He remains in police custody at this stage.
