Townswomen's Guild coffee mornig for SSAFA

LITTLE Common was a hive of activity on Saturday with many local folk out and about supporting charitable events which were being held in the area.

One such event was a coffee morning held at the Methodist Church hall by the Little Common Townswomen's Guild.

The coffee morning, which the ladies held to raise funds for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association '“ Forces Help), had many stalls selling a wide variety of goods.

With books, DVD's, videos, bric a brac, cards and scrumptious home-made cakes there was much on offer. However many people who were hoping to buy Doreen's home-made marmalade were disappointed as it sold out within minutes! There was a well-stocked raffle thanks to the many kind donations; teas and coffees were served and approximately 280 was raised.

Attending the event, to promote awareness of SSAFA, were husband and wife team Dawn and John Lott of the Bexhill division of the charity.

Dawn said: "We want to make more people aware of the service that SSAFA offers and to encourage them to contact us."

The charity, founded in 1885, provides a variety of financial assistance to serving and ex-Service personnel and their families who are in need.

There is a confidential free support line available for those who may be in need 0800 731 4880 alternatively visit the web-site at www.ssafa.org.uk
