Touch of magic at hospital fundraiser

THIS year's Bexhill Hospital Garden Party on Saturday, June 18 promises to be an enjoyable mixture of events for all ages '“ plus a touch of magic.

In the past year the League of Friends of Bexhill Hospital has provided a record £488,500-worth of equipment for the benefit of local patients attending Bexhill Hospital and the area’s acute hospital, the Conquest at Hastings.

Now it is looking once more for the town’s support at its annual showcase.

Garden party organiser Mark Sivyer says: “Visitors will have a chance to enjoy the exciting skirl of the bagpipes played by Eastbourne Scottish Pipe Band.

“The Bexhill 100 Motoring Club will show some of the members’ classic cars.

“There will be stalls offering a great assortment of refreshments and an opportunity to buy books, plants, sweets and other items and, of course, the raffle.

“For the children and young-at-heart there will be Charlie the Clown plus Jamie the Magician who will put on an exhibition suitable for the whole family.

“East Sussex Fire and Rescue hopes to bring a fire engine – always popular with the children to have a close look at. HM Coastguard will also be attending.

“Furry Friends will have their cuddly rabbits and children’s games.

“The Baby Contest, which has proved so popular, will be held again and this year promises to give the judges a difficult job.

“Provided we are again blessed with fine weather, that Hospital Garden Party tradition, tea on the lawn, should again give supporters the chance to rest their feet and refresh themselves in the Irvine Unit’s Millennium Garden.

“The league’s general committee looks forward to seeing as many people as possible when Bexhill’s new Town Mayor Cllr Stuart Wood opens the proceeding at 1pm.
