Three held over Barnham shop raid

Three suspects were held in connection with a failed attempt to rob a Barnham convenience store on Saturday night (December 1).

A teenager walked into the Barnham Superfayre store in Lake Lane just before 6.30pm, produced what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded money. However, he ran off empty-handed and got into a car waiting nearby, when the only member of staff in the store went to phone the police. The car sped off.

The man working in the shop was shaken, but unhurt.

Less than two hours later, as a result of police enquiries, a silver Mercedes saloon was stopped by unarmed officers at the A27 junction with the A22 at Polegate, East Sussex. Two men were arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.
